AYM Postdoctoral Fellow Receives IRCC Grant
Congratulations to AYM members Dr. Amanda Sim, Postdoctoral Research Fellow, and Dr. Kathy Georgiades, who have recently been awarded funding in the amount of $108,000 (2021-2024) from Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)’s Service Delivery Improvements Program. This is a dedicated funding stream within IRCC’s Settlement Program that invests strategically in projects that offer insights on program design and sector improvements to build evidence to support future settlement programming. The project, “Testing innovative approaches to newcomer and refugee mental health assessment to inform accessible and culturally-responsive service delivery,” will partner with policy makers and service providers in the settlement, education, and health sectors to assess the mental health and well-being of newcomer children, youth, and caregivers, understand barriers and facilitators to accessing care, and identify preferences for mental health support. Findings from the study will inform recommendations for strategies to increase access to culturally-responsive mental health support for newcomer children, youth, and families.
