AYM Postdoctoral Fellow Appointed at Queen’s University Belfast

Congratulations to Dr. Emma Nolan, who has recently been appointed as a Lecturer in Psychology and Mental Health within the School of Psychology at Queen’s University Belfast. In this role, she will continue her research on youth mental health, well-being, and psychiatric epidemiology, with a strong focus on mental health measurement, functioning, and translating research into policy and practice.
Emma Nolan joined the AYM Team as a postdoctoral fellow in 2023 after receiving her PhD in Psychology from Ulster University, Northern Ireland.
Emma reflects on her experience working and learning at McMaster University:
“I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such a talented and supportive group of researchers. The collaborative environment at AYM not only strengthened my expertise in youth mental health research but also deepened my commitment to ensuring that research informs real-world policy and practice. Being involved in the Canadian Health Survey on Children and Youth (CHSCY) was a highlight, as it allowed me to contribute to the development of Canada’s first nationally representative longitudinal study of child and youth health that spanned pre and post pandemic, shaping how we understand mental health trends across the country.
During my time at the Offord Centre, I had the privilege of presenting my work at national and international conferences, engaging in meaningful cross-institutional collaborations, and receiving funding to lead a national research project on youth well-being. These experiences have profoundly shaped my research trajectory, and I look forward to continuing these partnerships in my new role.”
Although Emma has transitioned to Queen’s University Belfast, she is excited to continue working with the AYM Team and the Offord Centre for Child Studies to strengthen cross-national research collaborations and ensure that our work on youth mental health and well-being continues to inform policy and practice on an international scale.
The AYM team thanks Emma for her exceptional work over the years and wishes her the best in her new role.
